Everything a website needs. Nothing in the way.

Frootbox makes the simple things simple and allows the big ones. Here is what’s inside, for editors, agencies and developers.

Edit where the content is.

You see your website as visitors see it, and change it right there. The editor bar shows only what makes sense for this page.

  • Change texts, images and links right on the page

  • Formatted text with a toolbar, stored cleanly

  • Every action can be undone, deleting too

  • If something is missing on publishing, the bar shows exactly where

Blocks that always look good.

Instead of a free page builder there are finished elements from your theme. Editors arrange them, the design stays consistent.

  • Images, texts, lists and tables, designed by the theme

  • Variants and options per block, with a preview image

  • Paste tables straight from a spreadsheet

  • The core works out heading levels, the outline is always right

Nothing gets lost. Nothing goes out too early.

Every change goes into a draft first. Publishing is a conscious step, right away or at a set time. Every earlier version can be restored.

  • Drafts may be unfinished, required fields are checked on publishing

  • Scheduled publishing, in your local time

  • Changes by the AI go into the draft as well

Feedback right on the page.

Send your client a preview link. They see the draft of the whole website, without an account, and comment right where it matters.

  • Preview links without an account, valid for 14 days, revocable at any time

  • Comments by the client right at the element in the preview

  • Protect a website under development with a password, so it stays out of search engines

The structure under control.

The sitemap shows all pages with their status. Drag to sort, filter by drafts. If an address changes, Frootbox redirects the old one by itself.

  • Automatic redirect when an address changes

  • Several navigations per language, defined by the theme

  • Page layouts with their own areas for blocks

Upload an image. Every size fits.

The original stays untouched. Frootbox creates the sizes the theme needs and crops around the focal point, so no head is ever cut off.

  • Set a focal point, crops follow it

  • Modern formats, delivered as a responsive image

  • Alternative texts per language, protected files only with permission

Multilingual from the start.

Languages are part of the core, not a plugin. Every page gets translated addresses, and where a translation is missing, the fallback language steps in.

  • A prefix like /en/ or a domain per language

  • Translated addresses and hreflang without extra work

  • Right-to-left languages too, in the backend and on the website

Everyone may do what they should.

You define roles freely, with a clear order. If you like, a role applies only to one branch of the sitemap, such as the blog or a department.

  • Fixed permissions per action, freely combined into roles

  • Roles with levels, nobody grants more than they have

  • The AI always acts with the permissions of the user

Colours and fonts, without code.

The theme decides what can be changed. You set colours, fonts and spacing in the editing mode and see the result at once, as a draft like everything else.

  • Contrast is checked while you adjust

  • The core serves the fonts itself, without third-party servers

  • Every change to the design is a version of its own

One action, many ways.

Every change is a described action, every read a query. Interface, REST API, AI and app use exactly these, there is no second way. You write one class and get permissions, undo and API with it.

src/Action/CreateOrder.php

#[AsAction('acme/shop/order.create', 'Create an order')]
final class CreateOrder
{
    public function __construct(
        #[Length(max: 120)]
        public string $customer,
        #[Range(min: 1)]
        public int $quantity = 1,
    ) {}

    public function handle(Orders $orders): Order
    {
        return $orders->create($this->customer, $this->quantity);
    }
}

Runs on ordinary web space.

No Composer, no build chain and no background processes on the server. What you back up fits in one sentence.

  • Full-page cache

    Guests get finished pages. The editing mode bypasses it.

  • Three databases

    MySQL 8, MariaDB 10.11 or SQLite for small websites.

  • Cron optional

    Scheduling checks on each request. A cron job only makes it more punctual.

  • Backup in one sentence

    The database, the folder storage/ and the file .env. Nothing more.

  • Clear folders

    Configuration in Git, secrets in .env, cache and logs can be deleted at any time.

  • A console if you want one

    install, migrate, cache:clear, seed and more through bin/frootbox.

AI as a shortcut, not a duty.

Frootbox is fully usable without AI. With a provider module it writes, checks and translates for you, through the same actions as you and only with your permissions.

  • Draft, shorten and translate texts

  • Check accessibility and alternative texts

  • Results always go into the draft, you publish

  • Without a provider module everything AI-related is hidden

In progress

The AI features are being built right now. Everything else on this page works without them.

Standards are not a feature.

Official modules

Everything specific to a field comes as a module. Official modules only use extension points that are open to you as well. Planned are:

  • News

  • Forms

  • Events

  • People

  • Jobs

  • Collections

  • Search

  • SEO

  • Cookie consent

  • Statistics

What Frootbox deliberately is not

  • No free page builder

    The design comes from the theme, so nothing gets out of hand.

  • No data collection

    Without your consent Frootbox sends nothing out.

  • No forced cloud

    Every website is an installation of its own and runs by itself.

Best to try it yourself.

Install, open the demo Bohnenglück and change the first text.
